The Friends Programming Committee plans a variety of programs:

Music --folk, jazz, high school orchestra
Drama--historical plays, local interest dramatizations
Film--various films including classic and silent films with piano accompaniment Authors--local author readings and meet the local authors symposium, guest authors
Instructional programs--cooking, crafts etc.

Financial support from the Friends makes possible a variety of special Children's Progamming.

In addition, with other organizations, the Friends support significant community programs. Collaborative Programming includes:

- Cinema of Law series with the Trial Court Law Library
- Jazz performances during Pittsfield Jazz Week
- Special Melville events with the Berkshire Historical Society

All Friends programs are free and open to the public. Upcoming programs can be viewed on the Athenaeum's Calendar of Events.

The Friends fund the Athenaeum's Summer Reading Program, annually serving over 500 children from Preschool thru Grade 5 by offering age-appropriate performers, craft programs, and prizes as incentives to keep them reading all summer long.
