Museum Pass Procedures

Who can borrow a pass?
Borrowers must have a WMARS library card in good standing; library card should have no billed items or overdue fines in excess of $10. Limit of one pass per family per day.
What is the loan period?
A pass is loaned for one day. No renewals are available.
How do I reserve a pass?
Use your library card number and PIN to make your reservation. If you do not have a PIN, create one at the LOGIN screen of the library catalog. Reservations are made by using the library's online museum pass reservation program. For assistance in using the online museum pass reservation program or to reserve a museum pass, visit or call the Adult Circulation Desk at (413) 499-9480 ext 3 during regular library hours. Have your library card in hand. At this time we do not accept museum pass reservations by voicemail, email or fax transmission.
When do I pick up the pass I reserved?
A reserved pass is picked up on the reservation date: Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 12 noon; Saturday, 10:30 am - 12 noon. Passes are not available for pick up on Sundays or holidays. A reservation on a pass that is not picked up by noon will be canceled. When picking up a reserved pass, bring the library card that was used to make the reservation.
Can I pick up the pass early?
Yes. A reserved pass may be picked up after 12 noon the day before your reservation date if the pass is available. If you want to pick up your reserved pass early, call the Adult Circulation Desk at (413) 499-9480 ext 3 after 12 noon to determine if it is available for early pick up.
When do I return the pass?
A borrowed pass is due back to the library the day after your reservation day: Monday - Friday, 9 - 9:30 a.m.; Saturday, 10 - 10:30 a.m. If the library is closed (on Sundays and holidays), the borrowed pass is due back the next day the library is open, by 9:30 a.m. Alternatively, when the library is closed a borrowed pass can be returned by sealing it in a large envelope and placing it in one of the library book drops, which are located at each building entrance and available 24/7. Passes must be returned to the Berkshire Athenaeum; Athenaeum passes cannot be returned to any other library.
What happens if I return the pass late?
The fee for an overdue pass is $1 per day overdue. The replacement fee for loss of the Massachusetts Parks Pass is $35; the replacement fee for loss of all other passes is $10.
What else do I need to know?
Passes are in demand, especially during school vacations, holidays and summertime. You are advised to make your plans and reservations early. In the event the pass you want is booked, be prepared with a second choice.

Please be considerate of others and help us keep this program successful by returning your borrowed pass on time.
