Summer Reading Program 2009
Pre-school – Grade 5 **
June 29—August 22

READING CLUB GUIDELINES:

Participants are encouraged to have their own library cards. Summer Reading Program runs for 8 weeks, and Club members must visit the Library at least once during 4 different weeks to complete their weekly visit card. Participants will receive a prize for each weekly visit, including a special final prize on their 4^th visit!

Club members also receive raffle tickets for every visit to the Library, as well as for participating in various activities. (see below) Prize drawings will be held once a week. Winners will be notified by phone.

Participants must be present in the Library to receive credit for weekly visits and raffle tickets.

Movie Days

Films for school-aged children will be shown
on Mondays at 2 PM,
from June 29 to August 17.

Films for preschoolers will be shown on

Fridays at 10 AM from July 10 to August 21.

Film programs are about 20-30 minutes.

No registration required

Summer Reading Club Weekly Calendar

Mondays—Picture Day
Bring in an original drawing about a book and receive one raffle ticket.
Tuesdays—Crazy Hat Day
Wear a silly hat to the library and get a raffle ticket.
Wednesdays—Stuffed Animal Day
Bring in your favorite stuffed animal to receive a raffle ticket.
Thursdays—Recital Day
Stop at the Children’s Desk and recite a poem or sing a song to get a raffle ticket.
Fridays—Blue Shirt Day
Wear a blue shirt to the Library to receive a raffle ticket.
Saturdays—Walk Like a Penguin
Do your best penguin imitation for a raffle ticket.

Book Clubs

The K and 1^st Grade Book Clubs
(for children who have just completed K and 1^st Grade)

The 2^nd and 3^rd Grade Book Clubs
(for children who have just completed 2^nd and 3^rd Grade)

The 4^th and 5^th Grade Book Clubs
(for children who have just completed 4^th and 5^th Grade)

REGISTRATION IN PERSON IS REQUIRED
and is first-come first-served
approximately 2 weeks before each meeting

Book Club participants will receive their own copy
of the selected book to keep!

Short Story Writing Contest

For Children and Young Adults (K—12)

Applications available starting
Monday, June 8, 2009 at Children’s Desk

All entries must be submitted by July 13 at 4 PM

Awards Ceremony and Reception for all participants

August 21, 2009 at 1 PM

Craft Activities

Crafts will be held on June 30, July 8, July 14, July 23, July 28, August 4, August 13, and August 19.

All at 1:00 PM

Crafts are 30 – 40 minutes long and intended for children 6 to 12 years old. *

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED—call or stop in to the Children’s Desk.
Registration is free, first-come first-served,
and will begin approximately one week before each craft.

*Children under 10 years old may not be left unattended in the library.
