Outreach Programming

The Berkshire Athenaeum is more than just a building. Our staff supports Pittsfield by going out into the community and offering people opportunities to engage with us in different locations. We bring our materials with us and partner with other local organizations to provide residents what they need to grow their interests.

Berkshire Book Bike

The Berkshire Athenaeum Book Bike brings library materials and services out into the Pittsfield community.   The bike also encourages healthy minds, healthy bodies, and a healthy community.  It's stocked with books, DVDs, ukuleles and more!  This summer, we'll be taking the book bike out on Third Thursdays and select Pittsfield Farmer's Markets.  Bring your library card and you can borrow books and other items right from the bike.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum.

Berkshire Seed Library

To promote discovery, healthy living, and community resilience, the Berkshire Athenaeum now has a seed library. Patrons with a library card can stop by the Reference Desk, sign up, and walk home with up to ten packs of seeds for vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Saved seeds can be 'returned' in the fall, or if folks have other unused seed packets, these can be donated. For more information call the Reference Department at (413) 499-9480 ext. 202, or email info@pittsfieldlibrary.org.

In partnership with The Hancock Shaker Village and Roots Rising and With Generous Support from the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum.

Book Club meeting in exposed brick bar

Berkshire Athenaeum Book Club

The Athenaeum hosts a lively book club at Hotel on North the third Monday of each month. Meeting from 6-7pm, this event is a welcoming blend of discussion and pleasant evening with friends who enjoy books, libraries, and maybe a drink from the Hotel’s well-stocked bar. Books are selected in advance with discussion mediated by our Outreach Librarian. All books are available through the Library network and range from fiction to works by authors you may not have read before.

For more information on these and other Outreach events, call (413) 499-9480 ext. 202 or email info@pittsfieldlibrary.org.
